Washington State Newborn Screening

Your midwife can offer your newborn screening blood spot test. This test is mandated by law to be done at 18-48 hours unless a parent signs the religious exception for the screening. For more information on the conditions being screened for, visit the WA state website:
https://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/InfantsandChildren/NewbornScreening/Disorders or the Parent’s page at https://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily/InfantsandChildren/NewbornScreening/ParentsPage

Your midwife may have the equipment to also do the hearing screen as one of her services! If not, she can give you a referral to one of the many screening sites in Washington.
